Muscat: Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed arrived in Tehran on Sunday on a three-day visit to Iran during which the Omani leader is due to hold talks with senior officials, including Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, President Hassan Rouhani and Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani.
According to a statement issued by the Diwan of the Royal Court in Oman, the leaders will hold talks on means to enhance the existing cooperation between the Sultanate and Iran in all fields that serve the interests of the two friendly peoples.
Sultan Qaboos is the first foreign leader visiting Iran since President Rouhani took power.
“The visit of Sultan Qaboos will open a new chapter in Tehran-Muscat ties,” Oman’s ambassador to Iran, Shaikh Yahya Al Arimi, told Fars News Agency.
“The two countries have ushered in a growing trend in political, economic and cultural cooperation,” the Omani envoy said.
Tehran and Muscat are also likely to sign a number of MoUs during the Omani leader’s visit to Iran.
Last week, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hussain Amir Abdollahian had said that Sultan Qaboos would discuss regional issues with the Iranian officials during his stay in Tehran.
