Dubai: Oman’s Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik has sent a cable of congratulations to Bashar Al Assad on being re-elected as Syrian president, local media reported.

In the cable, Sultan Haitham expressed his sincere congratulations and best wishes of success to President Al Assad in leading the Syrian people towards further aspirations of stability, progress and prosperity.

Sultan Haitham is the first Gulf leader to congratulate Al Assad on being re-elected as president of Syria.

Earlier last March, Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad made an official visit to Oman and visited the National Museum in Muscat with a delegation of senior officials from Oman’s foreign ministry, including Ambassador Khaled bin Saeed Al Jaradi.
