Muscat: Omanis prefer to visit destinations within Oman for summer vacation, a leading Omani media forum ‘Omaniyanews’ reported.

There are many destinations inside Oman that have been a favourite hideout not just for the citizens but also for the expatriate residents and tourists from the region.

Ghanim, a tour guide from Salalah, said that he has been getting queries from tourists asking about the situation in Salalah, and also checking on when the tourist visa would open up. Oman temporarily stopped issuing all visas, until further notice.

Apart from Salalah, which is the most popular getaway due to its misty and drizzly weather, there are other places too which are popular where temperature is considerably lower, throughout the year.

Jebel Akhdar and Jebel Shams are two such places which are increasingly sought for short breaks, especially during the summer months. Both the places are part of the Hajar mountain range and the elevation ensures a cooler clime with a bit of relief rain every now and then.

The waterfalls and streams created by the sudden rains that are not uncommon in the higher ranges, present a picturesque scene, setting the right mood for holidays.

The Masirah Island is another place opted for short breaks by Omanis. The island, located off the east coast of Oman and in Arabian Sea is 95 kilometres long and 12 to 14 kilometres wide. One has to reach a place called Shannah by road from where ferries are operated to Masirah Island.
