Muscat: People in Muttrah, Oman have reportedly penned an appeal to the Supreme Committee requesting not to receive cruise ships at the Muscat’s cruise terminal port in Muttrah, due to the ongoing pandemic situation, according to a report in an Arabic news portal.

The port is very popular with cruise ships and tourists, with its picturesque setting of Corniche and the traditional Muttrah Souq flanking the sides. It had between January 1 and February 29, 2020, received a bulk of the 110,000 plus cruise ship tourists, according to cruisemapper.com. Before the travel ban due to COVID-19, the sultanate was expecting over 300,000 cruise tourists in 2020.

Following the long hiatus due to the spread of COVID-19, Oman has now allowed cruises to resume. Oman is expected to receive its first cruise-liner in January.
