Muscat: International SOS Consulting ranked the Sultanate of Oman among one of the safest and least risky travel destinations in the world.

According to the recently issued World Travel Risk Map for 2021, Oman along with Qatar, Kuwait and UAE were billed as among the safest to travel.

Founded in 1985, the International SOS (Int SOS) Group is a health and security services firm, with over 12,000 organisations around the world as their clients, including the majority of the Fortune Global 500 cmpanies.

International SOS group claims that 10,000 multi-cultural medical, security and logistics experts stand to provide support and assistance round-the-clock and all-around the year from over thousand locations in 85 countries.

Security levels

The World Travel Risk map was prepared based on an assessment of security levels in countries on the basis of the threat posed by political violence including terrorism, rebellion, politically motivated unrest, war, social unrest, including sectarian and ethnic violence, in addition to violent crimes and petty crimes.

The quality of transport infrastructure, the effectiveness of security and emergency services and exposure to natural disasters were also taken into consideration. The list of least-risk countries and the safest countries for traveling apart from Oman, Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE are the United States, European countries and Canada.

When it started International SOS met an urgent need for emergency assistance during critical illness, accident or civil unrest. Gradually, their focus shifted to do everything in their realm to prevent an emergency.
