Muscat: An alleged attempt to extort money by kidnapping a resident has been foiled by the Royal Oman Police (ROP), according to a press release from the Public Relations Department of the ROP on Saturday.

Three persons of Asian origin have been caught for allegedly kidnapping their compatriot.

According to the police, the three accused barged into the home of the kidnap victim in the Al Khuwair area in Muscat and took him forcibly with them after allegedly beating him up.

The kidnap victim was taken to Hamriya district of Muscat, which is popularly known as mini-Bangladesh as a majority of the expatriate inhabitants in this area are from Bangladesh.

The kidnap victim's brother informed the police about the incident when the alleged kidnappers approached him and asked him to transfer money to a bank account for the release of the victim. 

The police traced the suspects to the house where the victim was forcibly held captive. All the three arrested accused have been referred to the prosecutors for further investigation.
