Muscat: Oman introduced smart surveillance systems that included many enhancements in the customs clearance processes on April 8, in Buraimi.

Lieutenant General Hassan bin Mohsen Al Shraiqi, Inspector General (IG) of Police and Customs, Royal Oman Police, inaugurated the unified security system for ports, marking the start of a new work process involving accurate security control systems and advanced inspection devices in the field of safe and rapid customs inspection.

In addition to supporting and facilitating the tourists’ movements to Oman, the new and advanced system also ensures additional security for the country.

The IG of Police and Customs also activated the electronic visa service system and electronic renewal of Omani passports. The new electronic visa system aims to simplify and accelerate the procedures for obtaining any type of visa such as the tourist visa, the investor visa, the scientific research and innovation visa, and various other visas.

The new visa system works through a centralised site that guarantees easy visa issuance for all categories from anywhere in the world. This is expected to encourage economic movement, facilitate the entry of entrepreneurs, increase commercial traffic and efficiently deal with the procedural requirements without delay.

As per the new service, application to renew or issue new civil card for citizens or residents as also renewal requests for Omani passports is done through a secure electronic system that allows receipt of documents from the nearest centres.
