Oman: Movement control between governorates will be strictly enforced during total lockdown

Partial lockdown from July 16 till the start of Eid holidays will be from 5pm to 4am

MUSCAT: No vehicular or movement of people between governorates will be allowed during the Eid Al Adha holiday, a high-ranking official in Royal Oman Police has said.

Clarifying the procedures during the lockdown that starts from July 16, Major General Abdullah bin Ali Al Harthy, Assistant Inspector General of Police and Customs for Operations, said that the curfew will have two phases — the second phase that falls during the Eid holiday is declared as complete lockdown, with no vehicular or people movement allowed throughout the day.

Even commercial establishments would remain closed. Only emergency services, will be allowed to operate. The partial lockdown that starts from July 16 till the start of the Eid holidays will be from 5pm to 4am, wherein all commercial establishments including shopping malls and restaurants will remain closed during the curfew hours with a total ban on people and vehicular movement.

Regarding the total curfew during Eid holiday period, Major General Abdullah Al Harthy explained that the Royal Oman Police will take all essential measures to ensure strict enforcement at check points to control movement between the governorates. Efforts will not be spared to ensure smooth passage for emergency cases and excluded categories, including humanitarian cases, as per the decisions of the Supreme Committee.

Irrigation for farms will be allowed as per the requirement provided specific rules related to their operation are complied with.

The official also clarified that there will be a call centre dedicated to the various emergency segments that will be activated during the period of the total ban.
