Muscat Rains hit Muscat as well as northern parts of Oman late on Friday evening, prompting health authorities to evacuate some patients from Al Nahda, a tertiary referral hospital for eye care, as a precaution.

According to sources, most planned surgeries for Saturday were put on hold and patients admitted for operations have been advised to go home and come tomorrow morning for a day-care visit. During rains last year, Al Nahda was flooded and had to be evacuated. The flooding had caused huge losses as all medicine was destroyed and operation theatre was damaged.

The source said that it was just precautionary measure following heavy rains. “Depending on rain situation on Saturday, the hospital would undertake surgeries,” a medical staff told Gulf News.

Al Nahda is one of the three tertiary referral hospitals run by the Health Ministry and takes eye, skin, dental and ENT (ear, nose throat) patients.

The rains, which hit most parts of northern Oman and Muscat besides some areas in eastern region, brought temperatures down to 23 degree Celsius.

The northern parts of the country received heavier rains with streets flooded in Saham and other areas.
