Muscat: Forty-seven expatriate women of various nationalities have been arrested in Oman for engaging in immoral activities, the Royal Oman Police announced on Tuesday.

The detainees include 21 Egyptian women, 10 Iranian, 8 Pakistani, 4 Thai, 2 Uzbek, and 2 Moroccan nationals.

Legal proceedings are underway, and all will be referred to the Public Prosecution.

Under Article 25 of the Omani Penal Code, anyone found publicly committing indecent acts or making indecent statements faces imprisonment from 10 days to 3 months, and/or a fine between 100 and 300 Omani riyals.
