Muscat: A merchant ship belonging to the Togolese Republic became stranded in seas near Hallaniyat Islands in Dhofar governorate in Oman leading to a daring rescue mission.

The water leaking into the ship caused engine failure and lead to its sinking. Oman’s Maritime Security Center, in coordination with the Royal Omani Air Force and other relevant military, security and civil authorities, carried out a rescue operation and pulled out all 12 sailors from the ship.

Indians and Syrians

Six of the crew were of Indian nationality and the rest were Syrians. The rescued sailors were transferred to the governorate and provided with necessary health care.

The 12 crew members were reported to be in good health as they are also required to complete the necessary procedures through the Dhofar Governorate police.
