Drug raids net 76 alleged dealers in Oman

Muscat The Royal Oman Police (ROP) announced on Saturday the arrest of a total of 76 alleged drug dealers during a series of coordinated raids on suspected narcotics dens across the capital city.

Initiated by the Directorate-General for Combating Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, the crackdown yielded a significant haul of banned substances, the ROP said.

In the populous suburb of Al Seeb, police apprehended an Asian expatriate woman allegedly peddling drugs to addicts in the neighbourhood. The woman, along with a male accomplice, was found in possession of heroin and other stimulants, in addition to some cash.

Meanwhile, authorities also announced the arrest of a Middle Eastern passenger with a stash of the recreational drug Tramadol in his luggage. The haul comprised around 5,800 tablets of the prescription drug, which is popular as a pain-reliever, but also abused as a psychotropic substance.
