Cairo: Oman Sunday confirmed 1,318 new cases of the novel coronavirus, taking the country's overall infections to 56,015, with an increase of 235 cases compared to the tally reported the day before.
The newly diagnosed cases include 1,009 Omanis and 309 foreign residents, the Health Ministry said, according to the Omani news agency ONA.
The ministry also announced nine new deaths from COVID-19, bringing Oman's total such fatalities to 257.
The country's overall recoveries from the disease have increased by 843 to reach 36,098 against the previous day, the ministry's update showed.
A supreme committee in charge of tackling COVID-19 last week vowed tougher penalties against violators of precautions amid an infection spike in the sultanate.
