COVID-19: Oman municipal elections postponed

Existing structure of councils to be sustained until next polls

Abu Dhabi: Pursuant to Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik’s approval, the Ministry of Interior Sunday issued a decision postponing the third term of municipal council elections scheduled for this year, the Oman News Agency reported.

The decision, taken in view of current situation of the Sultanate and the whole world due to coronavirus, also sustains the existing structure of municipal councils till such a time that new elections could be held.

The date for new elections will be announced in due course.
