Abu Dhabi: The UAE has lauded Kuwait’s new Prime Minister Shaikh Sabah Al Khalid Al Sabah as a “wise and experienced” diplomat.

On Tuesday, Kuwait’s Emir Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah appointed Shaikh Sabah, a career diplomat, as the country’s new prime minister and swore him in.

“We congratulate Shaikh Sabah Al Khalid Al Hamad Al Sabah on the Emiri confidence in heading the premiership in the sisterly state of Kuwait,” UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr Anwar Gargash said.

He termed the new prime minister as an official who has greatly represented Kuwait’s diplomacy in recent years.

“Shaikh Sabah Al Khalid was an exemplary representative of Kuwait’s policy on the international arenas with his modesty, wisdom and experience. We wish him success in his new national responsibilities,” Dr Gargash added.

Shaikh Sabah, 66, served as deputy prime minister and foreign minister in Kuwait’s outgoing government.

That government resigned last week amid no-confidence motions in parliament against some of its ministers and an exchange of accusations amid its senior members over alleged irregularities at an army-run fund.
