Dubai: Kuwait has launched an immediate investigation into a high-profile forgery case involving a senior security official accused of fraudulently obtaining Kuwaiti citizenship and facilitating the recruitment of relatives into sensitive government roles, a security source has revealed.

The case, described as “the biggest breach faced by a sensitive institution,” has led to the revocation of Kuwaiti citizenship for the retired officer, his three sons, and 20 other individuals connected to the scheme.

Investigations revealed that the officer, originally of Syrian nationality, was fraudulently added to the citizenship records of a Kuwaiti citizen at the age of 10.

Further inquiries showed that his father, a Syrian who later became a Saudi citizen, and other family members were also involved in the fraud.

The officer allegedly exploited his authority to secure leadership positions for his sons within the same security institution, raising concerns about the integrity of critical government roles.

Despite initial findings by the Nationality Investigations Department in 2016, political pressures reportedly stalled action at the time. Renewed investigations, supported by DNA evidence and matching residential records, have now prompted decisive steps, the source said.

The Supreme Committee reviewed the case in full and approved the withdrawal of citizenship from all those involved.
