Manama: Kuwait's education ministry is planning to introduce latest technologies in all its schools to promote interactive electronic learning.
"The plan is part of the comprehensive strategy for educational modernisation sponsored by education minister and aims to raise a generation of students capable of dealing confidently with the global scientific developments and who can educate themselves smoothly," Hana Al Sharrah, director-general of the information centre at the education ministry said.
"The focus of the plan is to promote interactive electronic learning methods and build the capacity of teachers while bringing into full play the creative talents of students," she said.
The ministry in 2008 adopted an educational modernisation strategy that called for electronic learning.
"Based on this strategy, a ministerial decree was issued in September 2008, to set up a supervisory panel for e-education. The panel developed standards for the projects of e-education and procedures of supervision," Al Sharrah said, quoted by Kuwait News Agency (Kuna).
The e-education projects will be implemented gradually over three years with the high schools as the first beneficiaries.
The middle schools, the elementary schools, and the kindergartens will follow, the official said.
The programme aims to create education-friendly atmospheres employing the applications of the latest information and telecommunication technologies (ICT) in education.
"Among its merits, e-education helps create an interactive environment, parallel to the traditional education, thus enabling students to surmount the boundaries of space and time during the learning process," she said. "It also enables students to interact with teachers more effectively and polish their individual skills."
The ministry is carrying out key projects to improve the ICT infrastructure such as the advanced data centre and Kuwait Gateway.
"The centre is the largest in the Middle East region. It links all schools to the ministry via an optical fibre network in collaboration with the Central Agency for Information Technology (CAIT) and the Ministry of Communication," she said.
