Manama: A request to quiz Kuwait's prime minister has been submitted by a lawmaker, the speaker of the national assembly has said.

"I received a request from MP Dr Faisal Al Mislem to quiz Shaikh Nasser Al Mohammad Al Ahmad Al Sabah, the prime minister. It will be on the agenda of the parliament’s session on December 8," Jasem Al Khurafi said yesterday.

"I certainly look forward to an end to these issues through cordiality, fraternity and keenness on stability."

Al Mislem presented on Sunday morning his request to the Secretariat General of the National Assembly to grill Shaikh Nasser in his capacity as the head of the government, in line with Article 100 of the National Constitution stipulating that MPs have the right to address questions to the prime minister and the ministers on issues within their jurisdictions.

Al Mislem said that the quizzing will focus on the expenditures of the premier's court and on the cheque signed by the prime minister for a lawmaker.

The MP has charged that there were doubts about possible misuse of public funds, but Shaikh Nasser has repeatedly said that he used only his personal money and that he was ready for any questioning.

The premier last week said that the parliament would not be dissolved and that it would remain four years as planned.
