Manama: Kuwait is likely to emulate the UAE or Saudi Arabia and block BlackBerry services, local media reported.

“Kuwait is looking at the option in line with the UAE and Saudi Arabia decisions in order to ensure that the services are not used by terrorists who could communicate away from any form of control,” Kuwaiti daily Alem Al Yam reported on Monday.

“Kuwaiti authorities would suggest having a local provider to ensure that the services are not completely blocked,” the paper said, quoting sources it did not name.

Al Watan daily said that Kuwait wanted to reach an agreement with the service provider in a bid to avoid blocking the services. The paper said that the authorities attributed their move to “concerns about possible security problems”
