Dubai: Kuwaiti security authorities have foiled an attempt to smuggle two million Captagon pills, firearms and wine bottles that were brought into the country via in a truck coming from Saudi Arabia, local media reported.

Suspects involved in the trafficking of drugs, weapons and liquor were also arrested during an operation carried out by Kuwaiti authorities in coordination with Saudi authorities

The seizure was a result of cooperation and coordination between the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior’s General Administration for Drug Control and the Saudi Ministry of Interior’s General Directorate for Narcotics Control.

The coordination of both sides revealed that there was an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of Captagon pills inside the truck at Wafra area, the ministry said during a press conference.

Hidden inside truck

After intensifying investigations, collecting information and obtaining a legal permission from the Public Prosecution, the truck was monitored, tracked down and seized while traveling from Al Wafra to a camp in Sabah Al Ahmad city.

The drugs, nine weapons, ammunition and wine bottles were hidden in an innovative way inside the truck

The accused confessed that they brought narcotic drugs into the country with the intent to smuggle them to neighbouring countries it said. They were referred to authorities to take legal action.

Sheikh Thamer Ali Al Sabah thanked personnel at the drug control department for their vigilance and sincere efforts to combat drug smuggling. He also expressed gratitude to the Saudi Ministry of Interior for their cooperation and coordination with security authorities in the two countries.
