COVID-19: Kuwait sounds alarm as ICU capacity increases

On Monday and Tuesday Kuwait recorded highest number of cases since start of the pandemic

Kuwait City: Kuwait's Ministry of Health’s spokesman, Dr. Abdullah Al Sanad, stated during the daily news conference that the COVID-19 virus still exists and that the situation is becoming risky.

Al Sanad pointed out that the drastic increase in cases is putting pressure on the Intensive Care Units (ICU) as the occupancy is rising.

So far, around 160 people are undergoing treatment in the ICU - double compared to last month, where the average of ICU patients was around 80 people.

As for deaths, on Tuesday Kuwait recorded seven deaths from the COVID-19 virus bringing the total to 1,092 deaths in the past year.

On Tuesday, Kuwait recorded 1,341 cases, the highest number of cases in 24 hours to be reported since the start of the pandemic. A day earlier, the number of positive cases was 1,179 the highest reordered number since May 19,2020.

The number of cases spiked but so has the percentage of positive cases to swabs taken, bringing it to 15.62 per cent.

In an effort to reduce the spread of the virus, the Ministry of Health urged all citizens and residents to adhere to the health regulations and procedures.
