The man has been convicted of trying to smuggle 50kg of heroin, the largest amount ever attempted to be smuggled into the country for trafficking.
The Court of Appeals yesterday upheld the death sentence issued on an Afghan man, identified as Habib Shah.
The man has been convicted of trying to smuggle 50kg of heroin, the largest amount ever attempted to be smuggled into the country for trafficking.
However, the court acquitted a Pakistani man involved in the case, identified as Afriq Jahan, citing lack of evidence.
"I did not know the cargo contained heroin," said Habib.
He added he had only brought a cargo of wood and glue as per a deal struck between him and a Pakistani man to be sold in Kuwait for business purposes.
Habib admitted to renting a warehouse to store the 'glue' cans. "However, the rent contract was signed after I was deported from Kuwait," he said.
