Manama: More than 123,000 people left Kuwait over the weekend through the country's various exit points.
The exodus followed the announcement of the exam results and resulted in massive congestions on the way to the airport or at the land exit points, Kuwaiti daily Al Siyassah reported on Sunday.
People had to be very resilient and wait for hours amid queues that stretched more than five kilometres near the Salmi border exit, the paper said.
Tension was palpable at the airport where passengers had to stand in long queues for the check in and were concerned they would miss their flights.
Beirut, Amman, Damascus and Cairo were the top Arab destinations while London and Kuala Lumpur topped the list for non-Arab capitals.
"We are trying to run away from the high temperatures and hard weather that have afflicted us lately, particularly that the vacation will this year be shorter than usual," the paper quoted a passenger as saying.
Ramadan is expected to start on August 11 this year, a date that would mark for many Kuwaitis the end of the summer vacation abroad.
In June, temperatures soared above 50 degrees Celsius and the country was on the brink of power cuts that sparked heated arguments within the parliament and calls by lawmakers to reduce the daily work load by two hours.
