Cairo: Bahrain’s appeals court upheld a three-year jail sentence against Asian expatriate after he was convicted of causing a crippling injury to a roommate during a dispute over switching off lights.

The court also ordered the convict be deported after serving the term, Bahraini newspaper Akhbar Al Khaleej reported.

The case dates back to last May when a row had broken off between the convict and his roommate who accused the former of swearing at him while drunk before he grievously bit his finger.

A forensic medical report said that an assault on the victim resulted in an unintentional permanent cripple.

Eyewitnesses said that a fist-fight had erupted between the two, who are also workmates, after the victim had asked the convict to switch off the lights of the room and that the quarrel left the former with an injury in the finger that prompted him to go to hospital.
