Dubai: A total of 6128 face mask-related violations in public places were registered since the decision was implemented, Albilad Newspaper reported quoting Brigadier-General Dr. Shaikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa, Public Security Assistant Chief for Operations and Train-ing Affairs.

Dr. Shaikh Hamad noted that according to the statistics, the Northern Governorate Police Di-rectorate recorded 2000 violations, the Capital Governorate Police Directorate reported 1265 violations, while the Muharraq Governorate Police Directorate registered 1201 violations, and 979 violations were recorded by the Southern Governorate Police.

The General Administration of Ports Security also reported 72 violations.

He added that the measures taken aim to preserve the safety of society and its members from exposure to infection with the COVID-19.

He stressed the importance of citizens and residents’ commitment to the instructions issued by relevant authorities and the need to achieve social distancing in markets, commercial stores and parks. He also reiterated the necessary to avoid gathering for more than 5 people with the need to adhere to wearing masks in public places.

The Public Security Assistant Chief for Operations and Training Affairs said that besides ap-plying the law to violators of precautionary measures, awareness campaigns were continuing and targeting various segments of society to enhance awareness among citizens and resi-dents of the importance of commitment and support of state efforts to eliminate the virus.

The decision of obligating all citizens and residents to wear face masks in public places was effective since April 9th 2020 to limit the spread of COVID-19.

The decision came in implementation of the directives and decisions of the Coordination Committee chaired by Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander, First Deputy Prime Minister.
