Teenager stabbed to death at school in northern England

London: A 15-year-old boy was stabbed to death on Monday at his high school in northern England, police said, the latest high-profile knife killing to spark alarm in Britain.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said in a statement the school and the boy's family were "grieving the needless loss of a young life and the nation mourns with them".

Starmer has previously labelled knife crime a "national crisis", and stronger laws against bladed weapons came into force last September.

The student was stabbed on the grounds of All Saints Catholic High School in Sheffield.

"The victim, a 15-year-old boy, suffered serious injuries and despite the best efforts of the ambulance service, he sadly died a short time later," local police deputy chief Lindsey Butterfield told a press conference.

She added that a 15-year-old boy had been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Flowers, candles and balloons were placed in front of the school, which was closed to allow police to investigate.
