Abu Dhabi: A labour court in Abu Dhabi has ruled in favour of a former employee, ordering a private company to pay Dh280,156 in compensation for unpaid wages and end-of-service benefits, according to court documents.

25 years of service, no gratuity

The plaintiff, who worked at the company for approximately 25 years, filed the claim after experiencing significant delays in salary payments and not receiving his gratuity following the end of his employment contract.

The Abu Dhabi Labour Court – First Instance found that the employee was entitled to compensation under the UAE’s labour laws.

Court confirms salary, legal entitlements

Court documents confirmed that the employee had served for more than two decades, with a basic monthly salary of Dh7,000 and a total salary of Dh14,000 as outlined in his employment contract.

The court stated that the termination of the contract entitled the employee to end-of-service benefits and unpaid dues in accordance with legal provisions.

Wages must be paid promptly

The ruling also reaffirmed that UAE law requires employers to pay wages on time, either in UAE dirhams or another currency if specified in the contract.

After reviewing the evidence, the court ruled in favour of the employee and instructed the company to pay the outstanding amount.
