Construction workers in China's city of Jinan have installed a massive inflatable dome over a large building site. The dome, designed to reduce dust and noise pollution, provides a cleaner and quieter environment for nearby residents.

Standing about 50 meters high and covering approximately 20,000 square metres, the dome is constructed from durable, lightweight materials.

Inflating using constant air pressure enables the dome to stand without the need for internal columns or beams, providing workers with more space to operate inside.

Why use an inflatable dome?

Construction activities often produce high levels of dust, which can impact air quality. To mitigate pollution, the dome helps contain the dust, preventing it from spreading to nearby homes and businesses.

The dome also acts as a sound barrier. Heavy construction equipment can be noisy, disturbing residents in surrounding areas. By using a dome, noise levels are significantly reduced.

Growing trend across China

Inflatable domes like this are becoming more common on Chinese construction sites. They can be set up quickly, making them ideal for temporary projects. These structures enable companies to meet environmental regulations and mitigate complaints from local communities.

This approach shows how China is adopting modern solutions to minimise the environmental impact of urban development.
