Karachi: The Sindh government has announced resumption of in-person classes from 6 to 8 grades in both the government-run and private schools in the province from today (June 15).

The decision to this effect was reached at a meeting of provincial Task Force on coronavirus.

The Task Force also decided to resume the classroom-based teaching for the primary classes up to grade 5 in the province on June 21.

Classroom-based teaching for grade 9 students and senior classes up to the university-level was resumed on June 7, following a drop in coronavirus cases.

Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani said that the coronavirus positivity rate was still over five per cent in Karachi and Hyderabad.

But, he said that the situation was improving gradually owing to the fast pace of vaccination.

He said that they would continue to monitor the situation for one more week before resumption of primary classes.

He said that there would be only 50 per cent attendance of students in the classes and it’s mandatory for staff to get vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the Task Force also decided that non-essential shops and markets in the province will now remain closed only for a day in a week on Sundays.
