Karachi: Sindh Law and Environment Adviser Barrister Murtaza Wahab has announced to establish two scholarships out of his own pocket for the students of University of Karachi (KU) in remembrance of his late parents as being the alumni of the university.

Sindh Law and Environment Adviser made announcement to this effect while addressing an international conference at the Karachi University Business School (KUBS) as its chief guest. His late father Wahab Siddiqui was a prominent journalist while his late mother Fauzia Wahab was a senior leader of Pakistan Peoples’ Party.

“I always say Karachi University holds a special place in my heart because my both parents were alumni of the KU. I only heard fantastic things about the Karachi University as what a beautiful place the KU was,” said Barrister Wahab who also acts as the spokesman for the Sindh government.

“Both of my parents are not present right now but in their remembrance, I would like to announce scholarships for the students of the Karachi University,” he added.

One of the scholarship in the name of Barrister Wahab’s father will be given every year for a male students of the KUBS. The other scholarship in the name of her mother will be given annually to a female student of the Department of Visual Studies of the KU where his sister studied.

Sindh Law Adviser urged the KU’s Vice-Chancellor to adopt the merit criteria for award of the scholarships. “The full fee of the two respected students who are found worthy and eligible for the scholarship will be borne by me,” he announced.

He appreciated the fact that the coronavirus pandemic had provided the KU with the opportunity to conduct webinars to invite academic experts to speak from all over the world.

He also advised the administration of the KU to adopt the required measures to sustain its financial independence and autonomy in the best interest of the students.
