Islamabad: A district and sessions court of Islamabad on Friday remanded three suspects in sexual harassment and assault against a young couple to four days police remand. The Investigation Officer (IO) told the judge the statements of the victims are yet to be taken. The fourth accused is already in police custody and on a remand.

A day earlier, Islamabad police arrested him and got four-day remand from the District & Session Court of Islamabad. The court directed the police to produce the accused on July 12.

The suspects were arrested after a video of the incident went viral on social media. In the video, which officials said was a few months old, six people are seen sexually harassing the couple.

The suspects held the couple at gunpoint, stripped them and then subjected them to physical torture. They can also be seen abusing the couple verbally and physically forcing them to engage in vulgar acts.

One of the suspects had shared the video with a friend who made it viral on social media.

In another video the main accused Usman Mirza could be seen slapping the boy and threatening him of dire consequences for ‘doing sex.’ The incident had occurred in an apartment in Sector E-11/2.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday called the Inspector General of Islamabad police Qazi Jamilur Rehman to PM Office and inquired him about the progress in the case.

He directed the police chief to personally oversee the case and see the matter was dealt with professionally and no one could escape justice.

Khan directed the police chief to use all resources to bring all the accused to the dock and provide justice to the victims. SSP Investigation Attaur Rehman on Thursday visited the boy and the girl who are married now and assured them that the culprits would not go unpunished.

They are likely to record their statement in a day or two.

The main suspect, according to police is Usman Mirza, a real estate businessman who led to the tracing of the others.

A case was then registered in the Golra police station under section 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 354A (assault or use of criminal force to woman and stripping her of her clothes), 506 (ii) (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of Pakistan Penal Code.

Special Assistant to PM Dr Shahbaz Gill in a tweet on Thursday said Mirza and his gang were involved in making objectionable videos of boys and girls and then blackmailing them.

According to the police there was a possibility that the suspects were part of a gang involved in organised crime.

Scores of similar videos were recovered from the mobile phones of the suspects and they were being examined to identify people abused by them.
