ISLAMABAD: The Punjab government has constituted a six-member committee to probe the matter related to discovery of rotten dead bodies on the rooftop of Multan’s teaching hospital Nishtar Medical Hospital.
The matter was brought to the notice of the hospital authorities as well as the public by Adviser to the Punjab Chief Minister, Chaudhry Zaman Gujjarm who posted the pictures and video footage of the bodies lying unnoticed on the rooftop of the hospital.
The bodies are dumped together and it seems they are left there for many days.
According to Gujjar, he found these bodies while visiting the hospital. He ordered the cremation of the abandoned bodies and directed the health authorities to take action against the employees involved in the matter.
Gruesome videos go viral
As the video footage went viral on social media, the netizens expressed their distress and called for an inquiry into the matter.
Additional Chief Secretary of South Punjab, Capt (R) Saqib Zafar on Friday announced the names of the committee according to which Secretary Specialized Health, Muzamil Bashir will be the convener of the committee while Prof Dr Masood Rauf Haraj and Professor Dr Shafiqullah Chaudhry of the Nishtar Medical University, Senior Medical Officer Dr Muhammad Arfan Arshad and one representative each from the Deputy Commissioner and the City Police Officer of Multan will be the members.
According to the notification, the committee has been directed to submit a report within three days.
‘Hospitals use unclaimed bodies experiment purpose’
According to the local workers of the hospital, the bodies could be of unclaimed persons and might be brought for the medical experiments by the students.
Spokesperson of Nishtar Medical University Dr Sajjad Masood in a statement denied the reports that there were dozens of abandoned and claimed only four bodies were found. Possibly they were left to naturally dry and be used for medical students’ education. However, he promised strict action against those responsible for letting the bodies rot “under the open sky.”
He added that four to five years old bodies were also used for educational purposes.
Chaudhry Moonis Elahi, son of Punjab Chief Minister Chauhdry Pervaiz Elahi, in a tweet on Friday uploaded the notification on his twitter handle and informed “An official inquiry has been launched.”
