Dubai: Senator Shibli Faraz has been appointed as the new Information Minister of Pakistan,

Fawad Chaudhry, former information minister of the country, broke the news on its twitter account. Chaudhry is currently the Federal Minister for Science and Technology.

He also said that Lt General (retired) Asim Saleem Bajwa has been appointed as the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Information replacing Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan who was acting as information minister since Fawad Chaduhry was removed from the post last year.

Senator Syed Shibli Faraz belongs to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. He is currently serving as Leader of the House in the Senate — Upper House of the Parliament. He has been the member of Senate of Pakistan from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since 2015. . He is the son of acclaimed (late) poet Ahmed Faraz.

Lt General (retired) Bajwa has served as director general of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR)-- media and public relations wing of the Pakistan armed forces.

Bajwa had served as Commander Southern Command before his retirement. He remained the director general of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) from 2012 to 2016.

In November last year, Bajwa was appointed by the government as the chairman of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Authority (CPECA), which comes under the planning and development ministry.
