Karachi: The alliance of Opposition political parties in Pakistan, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), is going to organize its second power show in Karachi on today against the government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

The Pakistan Peoples’ Party is hosting the second public meeting of the PDM in Karachi after the alliance maiden show of power in Gujranwala.

The PPP every year on October 18 commemorates the anniversary of the dreadful bomb blasts at the homecoming rally of Benazir Bhutto in Karachi in 2007 when scores of the workers and supporters of the party were killed and injured.

The venue of the public meeting is Bagh-e-Jinnah, which is a vast ground next to Mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, that is quite often used by the political parties to hold big public gatherings.

Another important feature of the public meeting will be the address of leader of Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) Maryam Nawaz who is going to address such a public meeting for the first time in Sindh.

Nawaz is arriving here from Lahore on Sunday afternoon as she will be directly taken to the venue of the public meeting in the form of a massive rally by workers and supporters of the PML(N).

Addressing the rally

Other PDM leaders who are going to address the rally include Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Allama Sajid Mir, Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, Dr Jehanzeb Jamaldini, Shah Owais Noorani, and others.

The component parties of the PDM have established reception camps on main roads of Karachi to welcome arrival of their respective political leaders in the city for the public meeting and also to mobilize their workers for the occasion.

A major challenge for the PPP, as being the host of the public meeting, is due observance of social distancing and other anti-coronavirus precautions by the likely massive number of participants of the public meeting.

The PPP said that it had placed 50,000 chairs at the venue in a manner so that social distancing was automatically observed among the participants of the public meeting.

Apart from this, the PPP is going to distribute face masks and hand sanitizers at the venue.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari along with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah visited the venue on Saturday night.

Bilawal Bhutto said the PPP would organize a historical public meeting in Karachi to give a tough time to the present government.

He said that October 18 would become a memorable day in the history of Pakistan.

He said that the parliament and judiciary was not free in the country as they had resolved to continue their struggle till complete restoration of democracy in the country.

He said that lives of people in the country had become miserable due to the present government. He said that solution to all the problems of the country lied in democracy.

The PPP chairman said that present puppet regime had been unable to run the affairs of the state and economy.
