First modern mass transit system of Karachi to be launched in September

Karachi: The much-anticipated Green Line section of Bus Rapid Transit Service (BRTS), the first-ever modern mass transit system of Karachi, will become operational by early September, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail has said.

Addressing the “Safe Karachi Conference”, Imran Ismail said the Prime Minister Imran Khan would be invited to launch the Green Line BRTS project.

He said the manufacturing of the buses for Green Line Service in Karachi had started in China and their test drive completed. The buses are likely to reach Karachi by August 15.

The Governor said the government had also assigned the task to the federally-owned Sindh Infrastructure Development Company Ltd to purchase buses for the Orange Line section of the BRTS that will also connect with the Green Line service in Karachi.

He said the federal government would make sure that the buses for the Orange Line service were also purchased at the earliest.

The Sindh Governor also offered an unconditional truce to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in order to sit with the chief minister anywhere, anytime without any pre-condition for mutually sorting out issues for betterment of the province.

The Governor represents Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s federal government while the chief minister heads the Opposition Pakistan Peoples’ Party’s Sindh government.

The Governor said the federal government earlier had to shelve the project to develop the Bundal Island, off Karachi’s coast, into a modern city due to Opposition by the provincial government.
