Dubai: Eid Al Adha is expected to be celebrated in Pakistan on June 7, based on astronomical assessments indicating that the Dhu Al Hijjah moon will not be visible on May 27.

According to a leading Pakistani astronomer Dr Faheem Hashmi, the moon will be only 11 hours old at sunset on May 27, making it impossible to sight from any location in Pakistan. “At that stage, the crescent is simply too young to be visible,” he explained.

However, Dr Hashmi noted that the moon is likely to be sighted on May 28, when it will be more than 35 hours old, significantly increasing visibility, the Express Tribune repoted.

If confirmed, this would mark May 29 as the first day of Dhu Al Hijjah , setting June 7 as the likely date for Eid Al Adha.

In the United Arab Emirates, the Emirates Astronomy Society has predicted that Eid Al Adha will be observed a day earlier, on June 6.
