Viral video shows man beaten to death while cop watches
The policeman's negligence has society in an uproar
When a video showing a man being beaten up by a mob in UP’s Shamli district was posted on social media, it created an uproar. Especially because in the clip he is seen in a police car with an officer – whose reactions to the violence seem very, very muted. And because as the video progresses, you can see the man lying on the ground before he is declared dead.
While the video has gone viral, it’s also meant that the incident cannot be brushed aside - it calls for a reckoning. Ajay Kumar, The Superintendent of Police of Shamli, has confirmed that an investigation will be held to gauge the level of negligence on display.
Up police have arrested one person in connection with the violent crime and are on the lookout for five others.
