The KSRTC bus drivers test showed a reading of 10, far above the legal limit
Dubai: Three drivers of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KRTC) were in for a shock one morning, when they tested positive for alcohol during a routine breathalyser check.
While the three insisted they had not consumed alcohol, the breathalyser said otherwise. Upon further investigation it was revealed that the three drivers had consumed honey jackfruit prior to their test.
On this morning, a fellow colleague had brought in a jackfruit to share with his everyone before their shift began at 6am. One of the drivers ate a handful of jackfruit bulbs on an empty stomach, before his breathalyser test, which showed a positive.
This left the authorities confused and to resolve this, a follow-up test was conducted. A staff who was previously tested negative was asked to consume the same jackfruit. And to everyone’s shock and surprise, the staff tested positive on the breathalyser after consuming bulbs of the honey jackfruit.
According to reports, an overripe jackfruit can contain trace amounts of alcohol which could have led to the false positive on the test.
