Mumbai: Shiv Sena’s executive president Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday underwent his second angioplasty in three and a half months at Lilavati hospital for removal of a blockage in one of his arteries.
Fifty-two-year-old Uddhav, who had earlier undergone similar medical procedure on July 20 this year, was admitted to the Lilavati Hospital at 10.30am on Sunday. In the next couple of hours, he underwent another angioplasty.
“Uddhavji underwent a procedure involving one more stent. The procedure went off successfully. He is doing well now,” Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut told media persons at the hospital.
Maharashtra Navirman Sea (MNS) chief Raj Thackeay, who was away in Pune, returned to Mumbai and drove straight to Lilavati Hospital to be in the vicinity when his cousin Uddhav underwent the media procedure. Even on the previous occasion in July when Uddhav underwent his first angioplasty, Raj was at the hospital.
Also present at the hospital were Uddhav’s wife Rashmi, children Aditya, Tejas and senior Sena leader and former Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi.
The latest angioplasty was in line with the opinion given by a team of doctors at the Lilavati Hospital that had discovered multi-vessel blockages in his heart. After the first angioplasty in which three blockages were removed, the doctors had suggested that he would have to undergo one more medical procedure.
Uddhav, who has been advised to rest after the medical procedure, will remain in the hospital for the next couple of days.
After meeting Uddhav and interacting with doctors attending on him, Raj drove to Thackerays’ Bandra residence “Matoshri” in north-west Mumbai where he met his uncle and Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray and briefed the latter about the developments at the hospital.
Meanwhile, renowned Bollywood singer Lata Mangeshkar called on the ailing Bal Thackeray at “Matoshri” and made inquiries about his health.
