New Delhi: Indian students at the Chongqing University of Medical Sciences, China, have accused some Nepalese students of verbally abusing and physically assaulting them.

The Indian embassy in Beijing investigated the complaints following the ambassador's order and will raise the matter with Chinese officials.

An Indian official visited the university recently and according to investigations a Nepalese student, Deepak Kumar Singh, and his group was terrorising the Indian students.

Singh is the brother of a recruiting agent with the Indo-China Educational Services, an India-based organisation which co-ordinates the entry of Indian and Nepalese students to Chongqing University. This has given him a clout in the university.

The Indian students at the university also told the embassy official that they were receiving lower standard of education compared to their Chinese counterparts. The workload for Indians was a lot less, attendance did not matter and the Chinese teachers struggled with their English, they said.

When informed about the complaints about low-quality education, the Chongqing university spokesman said the students were being given time to adjust to the institute.

The Indian official spoke to the university president, who claimed that the varsity was spending twice the amount of money on foreign students compared to Chinese students. The Indian Human Resource Ministry and the Medical Council of India have been informed about the complaints.
