New Delhi: Indian women politicians are visiting premium Pakistani fashion stores in secret, according to shopkeepers.

Bored of the similar kind of designs churned out year after year by their once-favourite Indian designers, the elite are going for a shift, says Sahibjit Singh Bindra, owner of the Pakistan Fashion Design Council.

Bindr said: “Most people who visit our store say that they are tired of wearing what the rest of India does, hence are looking for change.

“The designs at our store are either single pieces or a maximum of three outfits of the same design. From people running the Parliament to office goers, the variety is immense to suit all pockets.

“Indians usually prefer red, beige, cream and pastel shades. Since the Pakistani cuts and styling are very different from what we find in India, the designs add new value to the wardrobe of women who like to stand out in a crowd.”

Bindra studied in fashion marketing at Istituto Europeo di Design at the mecca of global fashion, Milan. His mother, Mini Bindra, runs Rubaaiyat, a store in west Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh. The outlet showcases fabric imported from Pakistan, especially made by the tribal’s and crafts persons residing in remote areas of Pakistan.

Both mother and son are, however, tight-lipped about the VIPs visiting their stores after making a verbal agreement with their clients to not let out their identities.
