Hyderabad: Love, they say, has no limits, whether it’s for another human or even a pet.

A Gujarati couple has been staying put in the temple town of Tirupati, 1,500km away from their home in Surat, for about a month to look for their lost pet cat Babu.

The cat, which the couple treated as their son, went missing from Renigunta railway station when they were about to board the train to Surat after a pilgrimage to the well-known Tirumala temple on June 13.

During their frantic search, Jaesh and Meena were duped by locals who swindled them of Rs50,000 (Dh2,680.4) promising to help find the pet. The couple have even visited many nearby towns including Srikalahasti to look for the cat.

“Babu was our only source of solace and happiness as we do not have any children. Ever since he came into our lives we were so happy. Now we feel as if we have lost a close family member,” Jayesh told the media in Tirupati.

Having completed their pilgrimage in Tirumala as thanksgiving for bringing “Babu in their lives”, the couple had come to Renigunta for the return journey. Just before boarding they realised that the cat was missing from the basket. They cancelled their travel to look for the pet.

“It is obvious that somebody has stolen the cat. We have decided to remain here till we find our Babu. We cannot go back without our pet,” Jayesh said, appealing to people to reunite them with the cat.

The couple said they did not get much help from the Railway police in the search. “When we approached the authorities for the footage of the CCTV cameras, they asked us to go to Vijayawada, the railway division headquarters,” he said.

“We are ready to give anything if somebody brings our son back,” an emotional Meena said.
