Dubai: In a shocking incident, a 26-year-old woman jumped off to her death from the terrace of her three-floor apartment building after cutting the wrist of her 3-year-old son at Satavahana Colony in the Indian state of Hyderabad on Monday night. The injured child was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died after a few hours. Social media users are horrified.

A Facebook user @deepakmehra posted: "It’s heartwrenching. I feel so bad for the family."

According to the local police, the deceased was identified as Mamatha and her son Riyansh. Mamatha's husband, G Shankaraiah, who deals in battery sales, returned home at around 10pm after work at his shop in LB Nagar, in Hyderabad.

Another social media user @Faizal Malik commented: "It's hurtful to hear such news. I don't know where the world is going...."

A local news source reported that when Shankaraiah returned home, he noticed his son lying unconscious with a bleeding wrist. Mamatha was not in the house. He took the injured child to a hospital in the vicinity and asked his employee, Vikas Goud, to look for Mamatha. He returned home at around 11pm after admitting Riyansh in the hospital. He went to the terrace and found Mamatha sitting near the water tank. As he called her, she stood up and jumped off from the terrace, which led to her immediate death. Later his son also died in the hospital.

Talking to Times Of India, a news channel in India, LB Nagar police inspector Ashok Reddy said: "The boy was suffering from eyesight-related problems. Shankaraiah spent over Rs200,00,00 (Dh98,270) for medical treatment of his son, but there was no improvement."

The inspector also stated that the mental growth of the child also suffered, which left his parents traumatised.
