Dubai: A 75-year-old woman was raped and brutally assaulted, in the Indian state of Kerala, this week. According to local news reports on Wednesday, police in the city have arrested three people including a 66-year-old woman, for the crime. “Shocked” twitter users are sharing reports saying that even age is not a deterrent for rapists.

The police said that the incident happened on Sunday, in rural Ernakulam. Apparently, the septuagenarian was raped at the house of a neighbour, a woman named Omana, who was arrested. The neighbour’s son, 46-year-old Manoj, and another man named Mohammed Shafi, a 50-year-old, were also arrested.

According to an Indian news report, K Karthick, District Police Chief, Rural Ernakulam said: "While one of the accused raped her, the other, who was drunk, assaulted her brutally.”

The victim was admitted to a private medical college hospital, on Sunday night. A medical examination showed that the woman had suffered deep wounds in her private parts, as well as injuries on her chest and stomach areas.

According to the police, the woman also has certain “mental health and memory loss issues". The elderly woman underwent emergency surgeries at the hospital, on Monday.

Reportedly, the hospital bulletin stated that during further scans and the surgery, it was revealed that the victim had suffered deep injuries in her internal organs, including her urinary bladder and intestine.

The doctors at the medical college hospital have said that her condition has improved slightly, and “her vital signs are returning to normal”.

The medical bulletin issued by the hospital also stated: “There is improvement in her mental state too.”
