Mysuru: Four of a Family, Including 15-Year-Old Boy, Found Dead in Mysuru Apartment
Four members of a family, including a 15-year-old boy, were found dead under suspicious circumstances on Monday in an apartment in Vishweshwaranagar, Mysuru, Karnataka.
The deceased have been identified as Chetan (45), a labour contractor, his wife Roopali (43), their son Kushal (15), and Chetan’s mother, Priyamvadha (62).
Police suspect that Chetan poisoned the other three before hanging himself.
“All four members of the family were found dead. Chetan’s mother was discovered in one flat, while the other three were found in a separate flat within the same apartment complex,” said Mysuru City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, who visited the scene.
Chetan’s mother lived separately in the same complex. Before taking the drastic step, Chetan called his brother Bharat, who lives in the U.S., and informed him that he was committing suicide along with his family.
Bharat immediately alerted Roopali’s parents, urging them to rush to Chetan’s apartment. However, by the time they arrived, it was too late. They called the police at 6:00 AM, and officers from Vidyaranyapuram Police Station quickly arrived at the scene to begin their investigation.
Financial crisis behind the tragedy
According to police sources, Chetan was involved in sending workers to the Middle East and was struggling with severe financial issues, which may have driven him to take this extreme step.
A suicide note recovered from the flat confirmed that financial distress was the reason behind the deaths. In the note, Chetan stated that no one else should be held responsible and urged the police not to trouble their relatives or friends. He also expressed remorse for his actions and took full responsibility.
Police revealed that Chetan had made the distressing call to his brother at 4am, and further investigations are ongoing.
Similar incident in Bengaluru
This tragedy is reminiscent of a similar case in Byadarahalli, Bengaluru, on September 17, 2021, when five members of a family were found dead in their home.
In that incident, Sinchana (34), her mother Bharathi (51), her sister Sindhoorani (31), and her brother Madhusagar (25) were found hanging from the ceiling, while Sindhoorani’s nine-month-old baby was also found dead.
A 2.5-year-old girl, Preksha, was miraculously found alive in the same room where Madhusagar had died. She had survived for five days without food or water amidst the bodies of her family members, leaving police stunned.
