The Calcutta High Court also addressed the appointment of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College. Ghosh was appointed as the principal of Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata immediately after resigning from RG Kar Medical College, which triggered protests.

The court questioned this appointment, asking how someone who resigned on moral grounds could be appointed to another government position. The court has asked Ghosh to submit a leave application by 3 p.m. today or face an order to vacate the position.

Sandip Ghosh resigned from his position at RG Kar Medical College on Monday, claiming he was being defamed on social media following the rape and murder of the trainee doctor at the hospital.

The deceased PGT doctor was found dead inside the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. Investigations have confirmed that she was raped and murdered. Reports indicate that her body had scratch marks, suggesting a struggle during the incident.

The victim’s family has alleged rape and murder.
Meanwhile, Union Health Minister JP Nadda met with a delegation from the Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Tuesday.

The IMA demanded a thorough and impartial investigation into the case and called for the West Bengal government to ensure the culprits are punished. The IMA also requested a detailed inquiry into the conditions that enabled the crime and urged improvements in the safety of doctors, especially women, in the workplace.
