Dubai: In a shocking incident, a 60-year-old woman's dead body was found in the boot of a taxi in Kolkata city in the Indian state of West Bengal. Social media users in the country are sharing news reports about the gruesome incident that happened on Friday.

Talking to the media police officials said: "The elderly woman was allegedly beaten with sticks and then strangulated to death by her daughter-in-law and three others over a family fight. After killing her, they stuffed the body in a sack along with vegetables, and went out on a taxi to dump it."

The deceased was identified as Sujamani Gayen, a resident of the Haridevpur area in West Kolkata, who used to sell flowers outside the Kalighat temple in the city. She had a very bitter relationship with her daughter-in-law, Sujata, reportedly.

According to a news source, Sujata's mother Malina Mondal and her partner Ajay brought Gayen to their house. Then, they gave her food which was mixed with sleeping pills and after that Sujata along with her three family members, thrashed, and strangulated Gayen to death on Thursday.

Police said they had arrested Mondal, Ajay, Sujata and her uncle Basu Mondal in connection with the murder.

Officials added: "The taxi managed to dodge several checkpoints but was spotted by some policemen who were on patrol duty. They stopped the taxi in the Chowbaga area near Anandapur Bypass road, and asked the driver to open the boot. Ajay, who was in the cab with Malina, tried to flee but was caught.”

During interrogation, Sujata and her uncle were arrested based on Malini's statement.

According to local news reports, the police registered a first information report (FIR) at Kolkata city police station under section 302 (murder) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
