Hyderabad: With only nine days left before the inauguration of the massive Hyderabad Metro Rail project, Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety Ram Kirpal was carrying out inspections on the final 9-kilometre stretch from Mettuguda to Ameerpet and 1-kilometre stretch from Ameerpet to Sanjiva Reddy Nagar.

The commissioner was accompanied by top officials including the managing director of L & T Metro Rail Hyderabad Shivanand Nimbargi.

The team of officials will inspect the civil works, permanent way, RoBs, viaduct, stations, electrical signalling, train control, communication system, rolling stocks and other systems.

Only after the CMRS gives its clearance and safety certificate will a trial run be undertaken on the entire 30km stretch from Nagole to Hitech City.

The CMRS has already certified of compliance of statutory requirements for passenger travel for the 20km stretch from Nagole to Mettuguda and from Miyapur to S.R. Nagar.

Without CMRS completing this procedure after satisfying himself about the safety of the Metro line, the Hyderabad Metro service will start functioning.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to inaugurate the first phase of the Metro Project on November 28 at the Miyapur station. The 30km stretch to be opened in the first phase will have 26 stations under three police commissionerates of Rachkonda, Hyderabad and Cyberabad.

With this attention will be focused on completion of works on the remaining 40 kms stretch on Corridor II and III. The biggest stumbling block was the line linking Imlibun Bus Station to Falaknuma area as Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) with a strong hold over old city was opposing the proposal of laying the Metro line through Mandi Mir Alam Road as it was thickly populated belt. Instead it was demanding that the line should be laid along the river Musi and pass through Bahadurpura area to reach Falaknuma station. The L & T was not ready for such a drastic change as it will lead to cost inflation and considerable delay in completing the project.
