Dubai: The Mumbai police is trying to get fit to fight crime and based on a picture released, it might be cause for heavy concern.

They have launched a new fitness programme where 150 officers will be given a month off to attend a fitness camp.

According to a report by Indian newspaper, Mid Day, their exercise will comprise of stretching, walks, aerobics, balancing and strength building exercises, along with yoga and meditation.

The first batch joined the month-long camp at Naigaon Police Training centre in the Dadar suburb of Mumbai, on Friday.

After a survey conducted stated that 40,000 Mumbai police officers are dangerously overweight, steps were taken to ensure that the officers stayed healthy and fit.

As reported by the newspaper, the joint commissioner of police, law and order, Deven Bharti said that most policemen do not have the time to take care of themselves because of their schedules. He said: “This is an effort to push them towards a healthy lifestyle.”

For six days of the week, policemen will spend 12 hours of each day devoted to health and fitness. India’s leading nutritionist and author, Diwekar Rujuta will be preparing healthy meals for the officers as well.

As reported by newspaper Mumbai Mirror, the people in the camp will have five meals with room for two snacks. They will have balanced meals, whichwill also include healthy drinks and fruits. Special gym and yoga instructors will be appointed to help with this fitness plan.

The bootcamp is a part of the Mumbai police commissioner Subodh Kumar Jaiswal’s ‘Svastha Police Sashakta Police’ (A healthy police foice is a competent police force).

Police officers selected for this camp have been chosen if their Body Mass Index (BMI) is at a ‘dangerous’ mark, according to the report.
