The two allegedly left the infant near a temple in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh

Dubai: A new born baby girl died after a doctor and midwife allegedly dumped her near a temple in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh and police have arrested the two.
According to a report by the news magazine India Today's website, the duo allegedly dumped her near a temple after she was abandoned by her mother at a nursing home in Andhra Pradesh's Krishna district, police said.
The mother was unmarried and the baby was abandoned in a local private nursing home in Machilipatnam on October 1, according to police officials, Indian media reported.
The nursing home staff led by a doctor named Dhanwantari Srinivasacharya and midwife identified as Baby Rani had allegedly left the newborn near Sri Venkateswarasamy temple on the same day.
Locals in the area alerted the police who admitted her to the district government hospital where doctors referred her to another facility in Vijayawada on October 2.
However, she was declared dead at the facility on the same day she was brought, police were quoted as saying, according to India Today.
Another doctor, who was on duty in the delivery room when the mother gave birth to the baby is involved in the case but is currently on the run, according to police.
The two were arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by Machilipatnam Village Revenue Officer Sudhakar, according to inspector M Venkatanarayana at the Chilkalapudi police station, where the case has been registered.
The investigation is underway.
